Harry Baron Visiting in Worpswede
The weif-known sculptor's works may be seen in Munich and Chicago

Worpswede (Comm.) - Once again, a famous visitor has been staying - for several weeks now - at the Atelierhaus (Studio House). For nine months, Israeli sculptor Harry Baron will be a guest there, together with his wife Batia - author of children's books and a journalist - and his daughter Inbal. The invitation was extended almost a year ago, by Martin Kausche, chairman of the Atelierhaus Club. An exhibition of the artist's works is already on display in the heart of Bremen, at the Elfers Design Center. The artist presents approximately 50 bronze sculptures and 20 paintings. Harry Baron is of international standing: his sculptures may be found in all parts of the world, in New York, as well as in Chicago, Berlin, London, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Tokyo. They are housed in important collections and museums, or displayed in public places. "Art critics praise his originality and his intelligent sensibility. He iust does it differently from others. People already talk about 'Baron Style'. As material, he prefers bronze, with which he reaches astonishing results.' (Lucie Schauer, newspaper "Die Welt", Berlin) The sculptor was born in Tel Aviv, although the family had been living in Berlin for generations. His father, a lawyer, emigrated to Paris and from there to what was then Palestine. Baron's grandfather was a professor of surgery in Berlin: his grandmother was the well-known writer RuthLazarus. His mother comes from the Uruguayan capital Montevideo. He worked in New York for some time and panicipated in several exhibitions, but his breakthrough came when he introduced his scupitures at the Center of American Sculpture in New York. In 1971 he took part in the first official Israeli exhibition in Germany, held in Berlin, Munich and Freiburg followed.
